About me
Sydney Andrea Landers (she/her/ella) is a freelance architectural historian and illustrator based in Los Angeles. Sydney’s journey with history-oriented comics and graphic novels began with "AGBANY: the birth of the historic preservation movement" which she authored and illustrated during graduate school and self published in Summer 2022 in a limited run of 100 copies.
A native Texan and proud longhorn, she started her preservation career in Austin where she earned her M.S. in Historic Preservation and B.A. in Art History (Minor in Architectural History and Certificate in Museum Studies) at the University of Texas at Austin. Spending the first three years of her career in private consulting sharpening her technical skills and understanding the ins and outs of the preservation world, she has since pivoted to freelance historian and illustration services, under the pseudonym: Squidny Comics. Utilizing her knowledge and experience as a dual practitioner, she seeks to make histories accessible for everyone.
