Dr. Alden R. Gordon is the Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of Fine Arts at Trinity College, with expertise in 18th- and 19th-century European art, focusing on French art patronage, collecting, and the art market. A Trinity alum, he received his Ph.D. from Harvard. His scholarship spans topics such as the Marquis de Marigny, Madame de Pompadour, and the role of art in Enlightenment society. He has held prestigious fellowships, including at the American Academy in Rome and the Getty Research Institute, and has curated exhibitions globally.
