About me
Cheng-Chung Huang joined National Science and Technology Museum (NSTM) in 1997. NSTM is an important applied science museum in Taiwan. NSTM has established close cooperation with local industries such as Chinese Petroleum Corporation, Taiwan and China Steel Corporation to jointly preserve and inherit the culture of science and technology. In addition to industrial heritages, the major researches of museum collections cover measurement, optics, printing, electronics, telecommunications, textiles and other fields.
Since 2004, Cheng-Chung attended Collections and Research Division and become a preventive Conservator & Industrial Heritage Researcher. Considering the strong and growing need for conserving industrial heritage, Cheng-Chung arranged a learning program to visit Canada Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) and Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI). Because of a research project funding and restoring a historical knitting machine, Cheng-Chung exhibited it at Industrial History Taiwan showroom after the restoration work finished. At that time, Jason was assigned to be a representative of NSTM to be a communicator with Institute of American Conservation (AIC) since 2006. Until now, Cheng-Chung has nearly two times to attend AIC annual conference and also joined Bigstuff Conference in 2019. Because Taiwan needed to follow the international community, the protection and preservation of industrial heritage was regarded as a multidisciplinary learning process. Cheng-Chung submitted conference presentation article titled as “Cultural Assets Inventory on Taiwan Power Company’s technological sites and its subsequent application”.
Recently, Cheng-Chung conducted the research focused on how science museum can expand the cooperation with art museums and conservation department of university. The current development and achievement included a poster presentation in 2024 AIC annual conference and plan a funding project to open traditional embroidery craft talent cultivation courses. Surveying an educational system for Taiwan's embroidery clothing cultural assets will need more talkative cooperative issue for university and science museum.
