Vania Assis is a highly skilled and dynamic professional with extensive expertise in Collection Care and collections management. As the current Head of Conservation at EXPM, she oversees conservation projects across Europe and the Middle East, making significant contributions to client institutions. Vania’s career has spanned three continents, where she has built a robust network of professional contacts. Her practical and strategic approach to conservation is backed by specialized training from prestigious institutions, including the British Library in cultural property and emergency care, and the University of Glasgow in artifact crime prevention.
Fluent in multiple European languages and currently learning Mandarin, Vania brings a global perspective to her work. Her commitment to excellence is reflected in her leadership of conservation and digitization teams in both public and private institutions. Among her recent accomplishments is the publication of her work, “Unfolding Tangut’s Lost World: Preserving Tangut Fragments from the Stein’s Collection at the British Library,” which appeared in the 2020 edition of “Care & Conservation of Manuscripts.”
Vania’s rich professional experience includes her previous roles at the British Library in London, the West Kowloon Cultural District’s M+ in Hong Kong, and her current work with EXPM. She has also contributed to significant digitization projects like the International Dunhuang Project, aimed at preserving ancient manuscripts.
With an educational background in Conservation from the University of the Arts London and a collection of awards and recognitions for her achievements, Vania Assis remains a passionate advocate for preserving cultural heritage.
